The Program Engineer is responsible for designing/approving, quoting, purchasing die cast and trim tooling. This position will also manage projects and interact with customers with the intention of understanding their needs and transferring this information to the tool shop.

Reports to: Engineering Manager



  • 2+ Year degree in an engineering-related field is required


  • 3 to 5 Years of experience in a die-cast environment

Requirements and Certifications

  • Previous experience with AutoCAD and 3D Software such as Solidworks, Pro-E, and/or Inventor
  • Previous experience with MasterCam is preferred
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT)

  • Be present on-site, travelling to customers and tool shops when needed.
  • Convert part drawings into tool drawings.
  • Apply automotive industry standards and requirements.
  • Establish parting lines, identify and locate datum and slide locations.
  • Interact with the customer, interpret and evaluate the customer needs, and transfer information to the tool shops and within the company.
  • Direct the tool shop in designing tools to make the best tool at the most cost effective price.
  • Obtain and complete quotation requests from Sales department and submit back.
  • Analyze prints.
  • Obtain all outside information necessary for quoting purposes (trim dies, gages, fixtures, etc.).
  • Place tooling with tool shop (purchase orders, part drawings, updates, establish timing, etc.).
  • Coordinate preliminary tooling meeting.
  • Review preliminary die drawings and part prints with tool shop.
  • Monitor progress/timing and quality of die build and final assembly.
  • Inspect dies after sample run for signs of premature failure.
  • Review layout with Quality Assurance.
  • Act as a customer contact for technical support.
  • Troubleshoot tooling problems in-house.
  • Perform FMEA or Value Analysis when required.
  • Manage APQP activities for assigned projects.
  • Work with other draftsmen or CAD Technicians in the development of drawings when needed.
